Analysis of Demand for MES in Four Major Markets in the World

Last Updated on 2018-05-07 Hits:881
The shortest market response time, the highest product quality and the lowest production cost have always been the three realms pursued by the manufacturing industry. But today, with the ever-changing environment, the pursuit of these three companies faces new challenges, and the methods that come along with them have changed. One of the intrinsic requirements of enterprise management is the flattening of management. In today's IT era, it is no longer a surprise that a person manages hundreds of people. Of course, there are some new challenges, such as visual requirements, regulatory requirements, and so on.

When asked about the company's experience and years of using MES, a survey data of ARC as early as a few years ago showed that 40% of the respondents stated that they have 1 to 5 years of application experience, and another 40% said that they have 5 years of application experience! Of course, the survey data has its own limitations. Among them, 34% of the respondents are from the process industry, 24% from the discrete industry, 37% from the mixed industry, and the majority are North American companies, a few are European companies, and Asia-Pacific companies very few.

As we all know, different countries or regions have different requirements for MES systems. The North American market is the world’s largest MES market. The biggest reality facing companies is the outward migration of factories. In addition, there are also a large number of existing technologies that result from the direct competition from other countries and the aging population after the World War II childbirth. Loss and other issues. In the past, production models based on capacity and price competition have now shifted to models based on orders and business needs. Therefore, higher quality products, better response to customization requirements, and stricter lead time requirements must be adopted. These requirements, which correspond to the MES, are higher requirements on the visibility of orders and on the condensation of the entire plant operation. In North America, companies interpret this requirement as requiring a high degree of integration of ERP and MES.

In the European market, the functional requirements of the MES have partially stimulated the needs of the European market, such as overall equipment efficiency, shutdown management, and low-cost planning and scheduling management. Another driving force is SAP's announcement of NetWare's support for management and factory-level standardized interoperability. This technological breakthrough allows MES's potential capabilities and direct benefits to be fully realized.

In the Japanese market, MES cannot be applied if it does not support the Japanese management model. From a market perspective, Japan still focuses on self-development. This may be because the management philosophy of Japanese companies is very mature and there is no software that can natively meet it. Therefore, packaged software on the Japanese market is very limited.

The Chinese market is very similar to the Japanese market. The mainstream approach is also self-developed. There are very few packaged software, and semi-packaged software has a strong foothold in certain industries. The main reason for the implementation of MES is that China's industrialization history is not long, and there are still many things that are still lacking. These deficiencies include the management of basic data, management processes, and personnel levels. In addition, one of the bigger obstacles is the challenge of the acquired status and the people’s fear of the new working methods, which also makes the Chinese market develop relatively slowly than other regions.
